San Francisco has become quite the burger town over the years and offers a range of tasty offerings from take out, dive bars, late night diners, brew-pubs to Michelin star establishments.
What I like best about a burger is some of the same reasons I love beer. It’s approachable, the best can be obtained at great value but you can spruce it up and serve it at fancy institutions where it can democratize the dining counter experience regardless of your budget and background.

Whether you prefer to sit at the counter after 11pm with a rowdy crowd, sit in solitude at a fancy restaurant or want to pair it was a fantastic craft beer or world class cocktails, the options are plenty.
There are plenty of good burgers across the city but these are the ones that stand out for me and while there are some I need to re-visit and try for the first time, there are enough here to whet the appetite and encourage me to explore more while
Best Burgers In San Francisco (No Longer Available)
Before I tell you what my favorite burgers are, I think it’s helpful to know what I like that is no longer around. In the last few years, several of my favorite burger places shut down or longer offer burgers on their menu.
Burger Tuesdays, Rosamunde, Lower Haight
Tuesdays were never so good without burger Tuesdays in the Lower Haight.
Wes’ Burger, Mission District
Wes’Burger hamburgers were phenominal. The gooey cheese, jalapeno slices, queso dip, onion rings paired with tots made this one of my favorites in the city and something I pointed folks to when inquiring about here to go.
NightBurger, Nightbird, Hayes Valley
Of all the burgers, past and present, I think the NightBurger from Nightbird was my favorite of all time. This burger was insanely delicious, though short-lived as a temporary offering via Nightbird and was last served June 5, 2021, a day that I will never forget.
This burger was is probably 80% of the reason why I made this list so I could softly, put out the intentions into the universe and seeing if may some day, come back to life in some shape, way or form.
Thee Parkside, Potrero Hill
Thee Parkside is still open (until July 5, 2026) so get in while you can. The back patio of Thee Parkside is one of my favorite places in San Francisco and epitomizes everything I love about the city: third space, live music, perfect patio, game nights, movie nights and something for everyone. I am going to miss this spot when it closes.
