Eddie’s List FAQ’s
Why Should I Follow Your Advice?
I grew up in the Bay Area and love to explore. I have always been a fan of checking out events (alone or with friends), going to places outside of my comfort zone, chatting up strangers and learning about different cultures, groups and communities.
Finding good events has always been a passion of mine and it even led to me being invited to Eventbrite HQ in 2014 for some feedback on their discovery platform: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140708165215-7143462-eventbrite-what-happened-to-discovering-great-events/
Chances are, your favorite event site/newsletter is subscribed to my newsletter. If you don’t find this newsletter helpful, that’s perfectly fine but
How Do I Pick Events To Show Each Week?
It’s a lot of work but I scour events of all types and I first aim to focus on events/organizations doing good things.
Some entities have a bad reputation and I actively seek to avoid those.
Some exploit artists and performers so I usually avoid those as well.
I proactively seek out events and things to do based on my own experience, trusted friends, and industry professionals. I also get suggestions from subscribers, fans, venues, promoters, artists/performers, and organizations.
I put all the events in the monthly calendar for paid users first.
After an initial curation, I balance out events by geography and type.
I don’t just put any event up each week, and I aim to post events I would go to if I was seeking out a specific type event: books, music, shows, festivals, talks, classes etc.
How Often Is the Paid Calendar Updated?
It’s usually updated 5-10 times a week. Things are always happening and I get a lot of last minute submissions so best to check day of for last minute events!
What Events Go Into The Paid Calendar?
These are usually events that are not seen on most other sites/newsletters. They are usually more intimate as well. I have to carefully weigh pros and cons of telling so many people about a small event that can’t support large groups or be put in an uncomfortable position to turn away folks.
I also add great, last-minute events discovered after the weekly email is sent out. A lot of events are hard to find or come together within a few days so paid subscribers can access more events.
If you like a venue, organizer, artist etc. be sure to follow them directly, sign up for their newsletters etc as I rotate recommendations and may miss out on some unique opportunities.
How Do You Select News Articles Each Week?
I usually focus on stories that people may have overlooked and didn’t get covered in most publications. I typically prioritize local publications from independent news organizations.
How Do You Select The Weekly Recommendation?
It’s a mix of personal experience and unique or timely issues, like a place that needs our support. I am always open to feedback/suggestions from readers.
