Weekly Recommendation
This week’s recommendation is to check your emergency preparedness kits, plans. Yesterday’s power outage (which is still ongoing for some as of this 11AM) was a reminder for all of what to expect in an emergency. Many folks were unprepared as there was no strong wind or rain advisories leading up to the outage.
Food spoilage in refrigerators (keep door closed); having non-perishable food. Thank you to Erin this AM for this tip about renters insurance coverage (see if your policy covers this!)
Candles, backup batteries (charged) for devices; having charged devices
Using flashlights instead of low-light phone lights for crossing streets
Having meeting spots, check-ins with friends, neighbors, flatmates
Checking in on elderly folks (especially if they live alone)
Having loose cash in case places are unable to use electronic payment systems
Having reflective clothing, strips in case of emergency when in the dark
Not relying on phones as grids were busy and people were without coverage
Building on skills and protocols learned from local NERT classes
