On November 10, 2025, a video reel posted on Tik-Tok with small seconds long clips totaling a whopping 26 seconds has gone viral. The woman claims that East Oakland’s Hyphy Burger (it’s actually West Oakland) was empty, dirty, salty and not good. She also claims she was bothered by someone for 5 minutes straight at the restaurant.
The caption on the video shows the poster giving Hyphy Burger a 2/10 score and states she doesn’t think this locaton is going to make it.

Normally, this type of video would go unnoticed but in this case, Hyphy Burger responds point for point with their own video (expanded angles, time clips before to show crowds and more). As young folks would say, Hyphy Burger ‘kept their receipts’.
The best part about the rebuttal video is the background music choice 🤌. It’s extremely rare in the Tik-Tok court of law to see a rebuttal like this unfold.

The video starts with Hyphy Burger referring to the reviewer as #saltysandra
The rebuttal video shows no one bothering her, no one approaching her.
The establishment shows the space busy right before as a large party had just finished.
The video shows the staff cleaning the space right after the crowd left.
In an interview with the SF Standard, the woman claims she was approached by a man who exited the bathroom but immediately apologized for bothering her in an escalating tone. The rebuttal video above features no audio to verify either account.
I won’t comment on the videos above, but I will say this.
I really hate social media in general, especially portrait mode videos, but more so short clips that provide inaccurate portrayals of spaces, experiences.
Short clips give a narrow view of a space without context (beyond the frame but also from other points in time). It’s similar to real estate agents who use wide-angle photos to make a space look bigger.
The same way those glossy videos from influencers you see on Instagram provide inauthentic experiences: seats you can’t obtain, meals that were comped, perfect lighting, fake facial expressions and unmentioned payments.
As for review etiquette, I recommend folks talk to establishments directly. Email, phone or otherwise. If they ignore you or dismiss your claims, then do what you must but in an age of social media, it’s more about trying to go viral vs trying to make things right.
Furthermore, new places deserve time to work out kinks. People should talk to each other in person vs through social media.
